J Family

This is a good friend of mine.  I have sure missed her since she moved across the valley.  Sometimes across the valley seems like across the country.  I was so excited for an excuse to see her family.  I couldn’t believe how big her twins are!  I drove the carpool to school while she was on bed rest before they were born.  It seems like just a few months ago.  (Although, I’m sure it feels differently for her!)  The twins were so cute, but pretty tricky too.  It got dark on us all too quickly (can you tell Fall is so close?)  I enjoyed getting caught up.  Thanks for calling Reta!

Favorites

3 posts in 3 days!  It’s a new record for me.  I just couldn’t wait any longer to show you to some my favorite new things.   I have loved, used, and probably abused my sewing machine of 9+ years.  She has served me well.  I can’t even begin to count how many quilts, table runners, skirts, headbands, mending, and machine quilting has been done with just this one machine.  It was a lot.  She has been very faithful with very few problems.  However, in the middle of projects for the kids’ teachers (that had to be done within the day), she stopped working.  Done.  She had had enough.  I took her in to get looked at and she did get going again, but with not much hope of lasting very much longer.

Living without a sewing machine is not a option for me.  So, luckily my birthday was around the corner and we decided that we needed to order a new one.   I am so excited to finally own a Bernina.  I have been looking forward to this day for probably years now.  I picked up my new machine back in July (it took about 6 weeks to get it after I ordered it!  Way longer than expected.)  Due to a busy summer and trying to do fun things with my kids, all I’ve really been able to do is take the Bernina class at the store to learn how to use all the features.  I really haven’t had time to really put her to work yet.

Then I made another order and when I got this next package, the wheels started turning of all the fabulous things I could make.  (I haven’t been so excited to get a package before.)

I have never purchased a fat quarter bundle before, but now I have two!!  The turquoise and red line is called Bliss (which I’ve been watching for), and the brown and blue line is called Pure.  I love just looking at them.  I can’t wait to make something, but I have to admit it will be hard to actually open the bundle and cut the fabric.  I’ll be sure to show you once I get something made.  Sewing and taking pictures, it’s a pretty close match as to which is the favorite.  Luckily, I don’t have to choose!  I get to enjoy both.

Old

Am I really old enough to have a 4th grader and a 2nd grader?  I guess so and that makes me feel old.  After a lot of worrying and praying, we decided to move the kids to a new school this year.  They have a program for Kaylee to keep her challenged.  Kyler will hopefully be a part of the program next year.  (they don’t offer it for 2nd graders.  bummer.)  I’m crossing my fingers that this will be a better school year for us.  Now, Tyson and I need to find some projects to do at home.  After only 2 hours this morning, he wants to go pick the kids up from school.  Glad he misses his brother and sister.

Accomplishment

This summer has slipped away from me.  We didn’t do near the amount of things that I wanted to, but we did do some.  The most important thing being swimming lessons.  My kids have always been timid in the water and I knew swimming lessons would be a fight (flashback from 3 years ago when I tried it before.  Saying it was a disaster is putting it nicely.)  I buckled down this year and got them enrolled.  The first 2 days were not good.  I was so angry with my 7 and 9 year olds that couldn’t (or wouldn’t)  do what the 5 year olds were doing.  Day 3, something started to click.  They started to catch on.  They made drastic improvements.  After day 4, they were begging me to take them to the pool to practice (this never happens!)  Luckily, we were able to get into one more session 2 weeks later.  Their teachers were so impressed what they had practiced and couldn’t believe they were the same kids from 2 weeks ago.  We still have more to learn and practice, but this was the greatest accomplishment of our summer.  It was a big one.  Good job Kaylee and Kyler!

*Jan and Heidi were the perfect teachers for us.  They were great to work with my kids.  We were lucky to have had them for our teachers.  We hope to be able to have them again next year.

Day 5

I’m a little slow getting this post up, but I had to share this beauty with you.   She is a whole 5 days old and was a gem the entire hour (or more!) that I took pictures.  It was so hard to pick which ones to show you, we got so many!  Thanks Meranie for letting me come play with your beautiful baby girl!
